When it comes to losing
weight, Victoria Beckham swears by Pu-erh tea and Oprah Winfrey favours
Oolong.
For many centuries the Chinese have sworn by the health and slimming
benefits of tea and research more recently suggests that people would gain
by drinking four cups a day.
Tea contains many nutrients and is generally lower in caffeine than
coffee.
Green and white teas in particular are high in anti-oxidants, which are
believed to help fight cancers and heart disease.
Tea without milk has no calories and with semi-skimmed milk has just 13.
Oprah’s Oolong tea is said to boost metabolism and is often called the
“slimming tea” and Posh Spice says three cups of Pu-Erh a day helps keep
her in shape.

Making
great tea:
The most important rule is that you should drink and enjoy what you like
but here are some tips:
-
A good quality loose leaf
tea is essential - teabags tend be poorer quality grades which "colour"
rather than infuse properly.
-
Use freshly drawn water -
tea leaves need oxygen to infuse which reduces once the water has
boiled.
-
Use around a teaspoon of
loose leaf tea per person.
-
Allow the leaves
sufficient time to infuse - around 4 minutes for black teas, three for
green teas and two minutes for white teas.
-
Milk can be added before
or after you pour the tea - it's your preference whatever anyone says!
-
Generally green and white
teas are drunk without milk and most black teas can be drunk with or
without milk.
